Module 3: Dealing with Change

Creativity should be something new, not merely an extension of an existing idea, creativity should incorporate something new, something original. Another aspect of creativity is that it should be functional and have a degree of purpose or usefulness, people everywhere engage in creativity daily, this can be in the form of solving a simple problem to a more challenging concept within their workplace, creativity is what help us navigate daily tasks. Hence creativity can be everyday events, professional inspiration or it may be a world changing development such as technological or medical advancements.

Overall, creativity involves the ability to develop new ideas, to use tools we currently have in new ways or create a new way of doing something and can happen in many different situations. It is suggested by experts that there are four levels of creativity:

Mini-c: this involves ideas that maybe know only to yourself

Little-c: can involve everyday thinking processes, people use this to solve everyday problems they face in their normal environments

Pro-c: this creativity takes place amongst professionals; they use their skills in their respective field of expertise

Big-c: this type of creativity take place when ideas become world changing concepts, such as in medical or technological advances

Creative people tend to be mentally energic and can spend a great deal of time thinking and reflecting on practices or penitential ideas, they may also be able to look at things from a new angle, providing a fresh way of doing things. They should be open to new experiences and ideas, be curious and in many cases persistent. Creativity can be increased through being open to new ideas, or to new experiences, by showing a wiliness to try new things and explore new concepts. Creative people tend to be persistent and set aside time to make a creative effort, to learn something new regularly. Generally, creativity is complex, some researchers think many factors contribute to the ability to think creatively, alternatively other researchers believe some people have the ability to be naturally creative. Nevertheless, it is possible to train the brain to be more creative through working on stimulating ideas and tasks, or through finding sources of inspiration can lead to developing your creative abilities.
